I had a client ask about an old iCloud storage plan, recently. She’s still on the grandfather’s plan for $10.99/year that provides 20GB. That was probably enough for advanced users back when Apple introduced iCloud storage in 2011. Today 50GB is for most users at $1/month and the next level for $3/month is 200GB. Few users with an iPhone can get by with the 5GB plan anymore.

Did you know that iCloud (as of 2011) relies on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure? I wonder if that’s still the case. I doubt they widely document how their systems work, but as much as we think we’re choosing one service over another…where our data is stored isn’t exactly clear to the end-user. The Wikipedia page even says that “In 2016, Apple signed a deal with Google to use Google Cloud Platform for some iCloud services.” Interesting.
